Moving a piano isn’t just another item on your to-do list. It’s a delicate, heavy, and often emotional process. Whether it’s an upright piano sitting in your living room or a grand piano that’s been in your family for generations, you already know this isn’t something you trust to just anyone.
That’s where Move Genius Canada comes in. If you’re searching for a reliable piano moving company in Montreal, you’re in the right place. Let’s walk through everything you need to know—from why piano moving is so specialized to how the right team makes the whole experience smooth, safe, and stress-free.
Why Piano Moving Is a Different Kind of Move
You might be thinking, “It’s just another heavy item, right?” Not quite.
A piano can weigh anywhere from 300 to over 1,200 pounds. But the real challenge isn’t just the weight—it’s the structure. Inside every piano are thousands of delicate components: strings, hammers, pedals, and intricate woodwork that can be easily damaged if handled incorrectly.
Even a small mistake can lead to:
- Broken internal parts
- Scratched or cracked exterior
- Permanent tuning issues
- Structural damage
That’s why hiring a specialized piano moving company in Montreal like Move Genius Canada is the smart move.
Meet Move Genius Canada
Move Genius Canada isn’t your average moving company. They’ve built their reputation on handling complex and sensitive moves with precision. Piano moving is one of their specialties, and their team is trained specifically for it.

That wide range of experience means they’ve seen it all—tight staircases, narrow hallways, tricky angles, and long-distance relocations.
Types of Pianos They Move
Not all pianos are the same, and each type requires a slightly different approach. Move Genius Canada handles them all:
Upright Pianos
These are the most common in homes. They’re compact but still heavy and delicate. Proper lifting techniques and padding are essential.
Baby Grand Pianos
These look beautiful in open spaces but are more complex to move. The legs often need to be removed, and the body must be carefully secured.
Grand Pianos
These are large, expensive, and require expert handling. Every step—from disassembly to reassembly—needs precision.
Digital Pianos
Even though they’re lighter, they still require careful handling to avoid electronic damage.
No matter what type you own, the team at piano moving company services ensures your instrument is treated with care.

Ready to Move Your Piano?
If you’re planning a move and need a trusted piano moving company in Montreal, Move Genius Canada is ready to help.
Whether it’s a short move across the city or a long-distance relocation, their team has the experience and tools to get the job done right.
1. Why should I hire a piano moving company in Montreal instead of moving it myself?
Moving a piano on your own might sound like a way to save money, but it usually turns into a risky situation pretty quickly. Pianos are extremely heavy and awkward to handle, and they don’t forgive mistakes. One small slip can damage the instrument, your floors, or even cause serious injury. When you hire a professional piano moving company in Montreal like Move Genius Canada, you’re getting people who already know how to deal with tight staircases, narrow hallways, and heavy lifting without damaging anything. They use proper equipment and techniques that protect both your piano and your home. You also avoid the stress of planning every detail yourself. It’s one of those jobs where experience really makes all the difference, especially if your piano has emotional or financial value.
2. How does Move Genius Canada handle delicate piano moves safely?
When you book Move Genius Canada, the process is much more structured than a regular move. The team first looks at your piano type, your space, and any challenges like stairs or tight doors. Then they prepare the piano using protective blankets, straps, and padding so nothing shifts during the move. If needed, parts like legs or pedals are carefully secured or removed. During lifting and transport, they use specialized dollies and controlled movement techniques so the piano stays balanced at all times. This is especially important in older Montreal buildings where space can be tricky. If you want to explore more about their specialized services, you can check the details on their piano moving company page for a better idea of how they handle different situations.
3. Can Move Genius Canada move my piano outside Montreal?
Yes, they don’t just handle local moves inside Montreal. Move Genius Canada also takes care of long-distance piano relocations across Canada. Whether you’re moving to another city in Quebec or even out of province, they can manage the entire process. Long-distance piano moving requires extra planning because the instrument needs to stay stable for longer travel times. The team secures everything inside the truck so there’s no movement or vibration damage along the way. They also plan routes carefully to reduce risk during transportation. If your move is part of a bigger relocation, their commercial moving company services can also help you manage everything together in one organized move.
4. What types of pianos can Move Genius Canada move?
They handle almost every type of piano you can think of. Upright pianos are the most common and usually found in homes, but they still require careful lifting and protection. Baby grand and grand pianos are more complex because they’re larger and often need partial disassembly before moving. Even digital pianos are handled with care since electronic components can get damaged easily if not secured properly. Each piano type has its own moving method, and that’s where experience matters. The team adjusts their tools and approach based on what you own. If you’re not sure what level of service you need, checking their piano moving company page can help you understand how they treat different instruments.
5. How much does piano moving in Montreal usually cost?
The cost depends on a few things, and there isn’t a fixed price that fits everyone. Factors like the type of piano, number of stairs, distance, and difficulty of access all affect the final cost. For example, moving a small upright piano from a ground floor is usually easier than moving a grand piano from an apartment with narrow stairs. Move Genius Canada focuses on giving fair pricing based on your exact situation instead of generic estimates. You can also combine your piano move with other services like Winnipeg moving company or other long-distance options if needed, which sometimes makes planning more efficient. The best approach is always to get a proper quote after explaining your setup clearly.
6. Is my piano insured during the move?
Yes, professional piano movers like Move Genius Canada usually provide coverage during transport. That means your piano is protected in case of unexpected incidents while it’s being handled or moved. Of course, the main goal is always to prevent damage in the first place, and that’s why they use trained staff and proper equipment. Insurance is just an extra layer of protection so you feel more comfortable during the process. When you’re dealing with something as valuable and sensitive as a piano, this peace of mind really matters. If you’re combining services or planning a bigger move, like using their international moving company options, insurance coverage becomes even more important for long-distance transport.
7. Do I need to prepare anything before the piano movers arrive?
Yes, but it’s simple and nothing complicated. You just need to make sure the path from your piano to the exit is clear. Remove small furniture, rugs, or anything that could block movement. If you live in an apartment in Montreal, it also helps to reserve elevators if needed. You don’t need to lift anything or pack the piano yourself—the movers handle that part. It’s also a good idea to measure doorways and stairs so you know what to expect. If anything looks tight or tricky, just tell the team in advance. That way they can plan better. Move Genius Canada usually handles the heavy planning, so your role is mostly just making access easy.
8. How long does it take to move a piano?
The time depends on how complicated the move is. A simple upright piano move within a house might only take a couple of hours. But if there are stairs, tight hallways, or long-distance travel involved, it can take longer. The team always focuses on safety first, so they don’t rush the process. Preparing the piano, loading it properly, and securing it in the truck all take careful attention. In Montreal, older buildings can sometimes slow things down, but experienced movers know how to handle those challenges. If the piano is part of a bigger relocation plan, like a Hamilton moving company service, timing is usually adjusted to match the full move schedule.
9. Can I move a piano during winter in Montreal?
Yes, piano moving in winter is very common in Montreal, but it definitely needs extra care. Snow, ice, and cold temperatures can make surfaces slippery and increase risk if the move isn’t handled properly. Move Genius Canada prepares for this by using protective coverings, safe lifting techniques, and careful loading to keep everything stable. They also plan routes to avoid unnecessary exposure to harsh weather. Your piano itself is protected from temperature changes during transport, which is important because sudden shifts can affect tuning and wood stability. Winter moves just require more planning, but they are completely manageable when handled by experienced movers.
10. What makes Move Genius Canada different from other movers in Montreal?
The biggest difference is specialization. Many moving companies can move furniture, but not all of them understand the precision needed for pianos. Move Genius Canada focuses on handling delicate and heavy items with proper training and equipment. They don’t treat a piano like a regular box or table—it gets a completely different level of care. Their experience across Canada, including services like Fredericton moving company and other cities, also gives them a broader understanding of different moving challenges. That experience shows up in how carefully they plan and execute every piano move in Montreal.
