Why Moving a Pool Table Is Tricky
A pool table is more than just a piece of furniture. It’s a precision instrument. The slate top, which can weigh hundreds of pounds, must remain perfectly level. The felt can tear or wrinkle if handled improperly, and wooden frames can scratch or crack. Many people underestimate the complexity of moving a pool table, but the reality is that professional expertise is crucial.
When you trust Move Genius Canada with your pool table move, you’re not just hiring movers—you’re hiring specialists who know exactly how to disassemble, transport, and reassemble your table safely.
The Step-by-Step Process of Our Pool Table Moving Service
Moving a pool table isn’t just lifting it into a truck. There are several steps to ensure everything goes smoothly:
1. Assessment and Planning
Before we even touch your table, we assess the room, doorways, and pathways. Some Montreal homes have tight staircases or narrow hallways, so planning is key. This ensures there are no surprises on moving day and reduces the risk of damage to your table or property.
We also discuss the size and type of your pool table. Whether it’s a 7-foot, 8-foot, or 9-foot table, each requires specific handling.
2. Disassembly
Disassembling a pool table requires skill. The slate top needs to be removed carefully, and the pockets, legs, and rails need to be handled delicately. Our team is trained in the proper techniques to avoid scratches, chips, or misalignment.
During this stage, we use specialized boite demenagement garde-robe solutions for storing smaller parts safely so nothing gets lost.
3. Safe Transportation
Once the table is disassembled, it’s carefully wrapped and secured for transport. Montreal traffic can be unpredictable, and even minor bumps can damage an unprotected table. That’s why our trucks are equipped with padding, straps, and the latest moving gear to ensure your pool table remains intact.
4. Reassembly and Leveling
After arriving at your new home, the table is reassembled with precision. The slate is leveled, the felt smoothed out, and all parts checked for proper alignment. A poorly leveled table can ruin games and cause frustration, which is why this step is critical.
Our team doesn’t just drop it off—we make sure it’s ready to play from the moment it’s assembled.

1. How do I prepare my pool table for moving?
Preparing your pool table for a move isn’t as simple as just lifting it. First, clear the surrounding area so our team can work safely without bumping walls or
furniture. Remove balls, cues, and accessories before the movers arrive. It also helps to label small parts like bolts or pockets to make reassembly easier. If you’re moving in Montreal, using Move Genius Canada’s pool table moving service means our experts handle the tricky parts, like disassembling the slate and rails, so you don’t have to stress about damaging your table. You can also protect floors and carpeted areas, but most of the heavy lifting and protection will be managed by professionals. This ensures your table stays in perfect condition during transport.
2. How much does it cost to move a pool table in Montreal?
The cost of moving a pool table depends on the table size, distance, and complexity of the move. A standard 7- or 8-foot table will usually cost less than a 9-foot or oversized table due to weight and slate pieces. Moving within Montreal may also be more affordable than moving to suburban areas. Move Genius Canada can give you a precise quote after assessing your table and your home layout. Keep in mind that professional movers provide equipment, protection, and insurance, which adds value compared to trying a DIY move. The cost ensures your pool table arrives safe and ready to play.
3. Can I move a pool table myself?
Technically, you can try, but it’s tricky. Pool tables are heavy, delicate, and often made of slate and wood that can crack, warp, or scratch. Even small mistakes can make your table uneven, which ruins gameplay. DIY moving also risks injury if you’re lifting heavy slate alone. Professionals like Move Genius Canada have the tools, team, and experience to handle every part safely. They also ensure proper reassembly and leveling so you can start playing immediately after the move. Trying it yourself might save money upfront but can cost more in repairs or replacements later.
4. How long does it take to move a pool table?
Moving a pool table isn’t a quick task. Disassembly, wrapping, transportation, and reassembly can take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours, depending on the table size and accessibility of your home. Narrow hallways, stairs, or tight doorways can add time. Move Genius Canada schedules the move efficiently, making sure each step is done safely without rushing. Unlike a regular furniture move, the slate needs careful handling and leveling, which adds precision time. Planning ahead and scheduling your move during a convenient time window can make the process smooth and stress-free.
5. Do pool tables get damaged during moving?
If moved incorrectly, yes. Slate can crack, wooden frames can scratch, and felt can tear. That’s why it’s important to use professionals like Move Genius Canada. We use specialized equipment, padding, and careful techniques to prevent damage. Each piece is wrapped, secured, and transported with care. Our team also reassembles and levels the table at your new location, so it’s ready for use. You don’t have to worry about costly repairs or alignment issues after the move. Professional handling is the safest way to protect your investment.
6. What areas in Montreal do you serve for pool table moving?
We cover all neighborhoods in Montreal and nearby areas. Whether you’re in Downtown Montreal, St-Marcel, or suburban regions, we can handle your move. We even provide services like déménagement Sorel and déménagement Maxi Plus for larger or more complex moves. Our local knowledge helps navigate tight streets, parking restrictions, and building access, making the move stress-free. No matter where your new home is, Move Genius Canada ensures your pool table is moved safely and efficiently.
7. How do you transport heavy pool table parts?
Heavy components, especially the slate, need special handling. We use padded dollies, lifting straps, and protective wrapping to move each piece safely. The slate is lifted by multiple movers to prevent cracking. Rails, legs, and pockets are packed separately and secured to avoid damage. Move Genius Canada ensures everything stays stable during transit. Proper truck placement prevents movement during the drive, keeping your table intact. By using professional tools and techniques, the table arrives in the same condition it left your home.
8. How do you level a pool table after moving?
Leveling is essential for proper gameplay. After reassembly, we use precise leveling tools to adjust the slate and frame. Even a slight tilt can affect how balls roll, so this step is non-negotiable. Move Genius Canada ensures your table is perfectly balanced, checking each corner and rail. We also inspect the felt and pockets to make sure nothing shifted during transport. You get a table that looks and plays exactly as it did before the move, ready for your next game night.
9. Can you move antique or custom pool tables?
Yes. Antique or custom tables need even more care because the materials can be delicate or rare. Our team at Move Genius Canada has experience handling vintage and custom tables. We take extra precautions, including specialized padding, careful lifting, and meticulous reassembly. Custom tables may also have unique leveling or alignment requirements, which we handle professionally. Using experts reduces the risk of damage, so your investment is protected, and your table is ready to enjoy immediately.
10. How do I schedule a pool table move in Montreal?
Scheduling is simple. You can contact Move Genius Canada online or by phone. We’ll discuss your table size, home layout, and preferred moving date.
